Intensity (Acidity)

If you like strong coffee with little, you should choose our Flatberry Single Origin and Blends, which have a high intensity. The longer the roasting and the stronger the beans are, the stronger the aroma and high intensity of the coffee beans will be. The long roast also removes the acid from the beans, making your filter coffee or espresso softer and more compatible for sensitive stomachs.

The taste of a coffee bean is determined by many factors. These include, for example, the region in which the plant is grown, the soil, watering and harvesting by machine or by hand picking. It is equally important whether the bean is processed naturally or washed extensively. However, we determine the intensity in our coffee roaster.

DOES INTENSITY MEAN MORE AROMA?

What exactly does it mean when a coffee is mild or intense? The intensity relates primarily to the roasted aromas. The longer the coffee beans are roasted, the drier they become. Bitter substances form instead of acids. The coffee bean tastes slightly burnt, but of course it is not. Consequently, it is better suited for espresso, mocha and other strong drinks. An afternoon coffee as an accompaniment to cakes and desserts, on the other hand, should be mild. Due to the short roasting until the first crack, it retains a fruity aroma, but also acid. Intense coffees taste more like chocolate and slightly woody tones.

FIND THE PERFECT ESPRESSO BLEND

At Flatberry we offer you some single origin coffees and blends that are particularly suitable for espresso and mixed drinks based on espresso. These coffees are usually roasted intensively. If you also choose a particularly high degree of grinding, for example, with which the coffee beans are ground much finer than for the filter coffee, you will generate more space. Although medium-roasted, coarse coffee can also have a strong taste, only the fine espresso blend brings in the full roasted aromas. Due to the long roasting of the drum, the coffee beans become darker in addition to the increasing intensity. You can recognize mixes suitable for espressos by the strong black color.
